There are a variety of different types of breast reduction surgery. The most common type of breast reduction surgery is the inferior pedicle technique. This technique is where a majority of the central breast is kept intact with the nipple attached. The remaining breast tissue and skin is then reduced, making it more proportional to the rest of your body. The areola (the pigmented skin around the nipple) may be reduced and repositioned as well.

Common symptoms of potential breast reduction patients are: bra straps cutting into the shoulders, shoulder pain, back pain and neck pain. Reducing the weight of the breast often times relieves these pains.

Breast reduction surgery is performed in the hospital, in the operating room under general anesthesia. The surgery takes approximately 2-3 hours to perform. Afterwards you are kept in the hospital overnight to obtain IV pain medication and IV antibiotics.
