Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is one of the most common cosmetic procedures performed by Dr. Mark Larson. Dr. Larson prides himself on performing expertly the most sofisticated and up to date procedures for breast augmentation today. Small scars, accuracy and appropriate sizes are the key to his busy breast augmentation practice.

The breasts are enlarged by placing an implant in one of two positions either:

1) behind the breast tissue
(subglandular)
2) behind the breast tissue and pectoralis major muscle (submuscular).
b. Submuscular
c. Subglandular
Saline Breast Implant

Positioning of the implant depends on the type of breast, the amount of normal breast tissue, nipple position and the patients desired result. The most common position is submuscular which gives the best result for most people.

Breast implants come in a variety of different sizes and
Shapes depending on the desired outcome of the patient.

There are several different types of incisions to perform this surgery.

1. The inframmamary incision – the scar is placed underneath the breast in the natural crease.

2. The periareolar incision – the scar is placed just below the nipple and the bottom part of the areola.

3.The transaxillary incision – the incision is hidden in a small crease in the arm pit (axilla).

Dr. Larson uses a specialized scope (endoscopic) when perfoming this procedure to obtain precise accuracy of his surgical dissection and predictable outcomes.

Dr. Larson was one of the first plastic surgeons in texas to perform the transaxillary endoscopic breast augmentation and has been perfecting this technique for approximately 10 years.

4) the transumbilical approach – not favored by Dr. Larson- the is incision in made in the belly button and a balloon type device is tunneled underneath the abdominal skin and inflated with high pressure beneath the breast, tearing a pocket.

Dr. Larson does not favor this approach because there is a higher risks of complications. These include:

Synmastia - where the breasts are distorted and touching in the middle. This occurs from the balloon tearing the pocket across the midline of the chest.

Lumpy irregular upper abdominal skin – this occurs from scarring beneath the skin where the tunnel was made. Implants are only subglandular
